CHAPTER 11

I stretched my arms and legs out in the bed. “So, should we get some breakfast?”

Alexander chuckled. “What did you have in mind?”

“I don’t know, a few deer, maybe we can find a coyote or something.” I winked at him and splayed my hand over his chest. He lay with his hands clasped behind his head, looking self-satisfied.

“Do you really want to go hunting?” he asked. He licked his lips as he watched me.

I slid myself over to prop my chin on his chest, looking up through my lashes. “Actually, I’d like to hear more of your story. It’s fascinating. Like the books I’ve read. Will you please tell me more? You left off when Lucius took you from your house.” I felt sated after the night we’d spent together. I knew I would chide myself for the decision to continue sleeping with Alexander. I didn’t forgive him for what he’d done to me. I never would forgive him. Yet, when his lips met mine, I couldn’t help myself. I devoured him as much as he did me. I wondered if it was our connection through the blood. I was drawn to him. When he touched me, it felt like fire on my skin. My desire was all encompassing and I wanted him. Only after we’d spent hours together did I start to questions if I actually desired him or if it were something else.

“Of course, I remember it like it was yesterday. I awoke instantly frightened, knowing I was no longer in the comfort of my room. I jumped up out of the bed and headed straight for the door, not thinking anything but to get out of there. I turned the handle but it was locked. I went to the window, but it was too high off the ground. I would break both legs if I jumped out of it. I realized then I was trapped. Panic overtook me for a second as I realized I had no idea what to do. I started to calm myself by analyzing all the possible options for why I was locked in this strange room. If the king’s men would have gotten to my family to kill us, I wouldn’t be in this room. I’d be in a hard-cold jail cell with my brothers and father. This couldn’t be that jail cell it was far too elegant and warm. Maybe my family fled the coming questioning, despite what my father said, they could have decided to try to run. I thought of my sister, hoping she was here somewhere and they were saved. I questioned why the door would be locked if I was saved. After a while of analyzing why, I sat back on the bed feeling defeated, I had no tangible idea of what was going on. There was no way out and I had no idea of what to expect.”

He looked to me and said, “I’m sure you know the feeling I’m talking about. I’m sorry to say I did the same to you.
